Home Remodeling Crash Course: What I Learned the Hard Way

Remodeling Your Kitchen On A Budget? Where To Skimp And Where To Splurge

Your kitchen is the hub of your home, it's where you do a lot of your family gathering. It's where you eat with your family, where your kids do their homework, where you pack lunches, and where you yourself do work as well. Your kitchen is a multi-purpose area that gets quite a bit of use in your home. If your home's kitchen is in need of a remodel, but you have to do it on a budget, there are ways to get the kitchen you have always wanted. Some things you can skimp on and some things you may be able to splurge on. Read on for tips to help you with your kitchen remodel.

Skimp

You can skimp on a few things in your kitchen that are things that are long-lasting, such as flooring or even backsplash. Some things you can skimp on now, you can add to your kitchen later, such as storage additions or your pantry organization. These are just a few things you can skimp out on. Flooring is a larger item you can skip, as you may get tired of your flooring later down the road or your flooring may get damaged with time, so there's no point in installing an expensive floor that may end up ruined.

Splurge

You should splurge on things such as your cabinets or at least your cabinet faces. If you have good cabinetry now, you can reface them with new cabinet doors and drawers. If your old cabinets are not in good shape at all, you should splurge on good cabinets. Cabinets can add value for quite some time and can be very long-lasting. Choose cabinets that are timeless and can withstand the changing of style throughout time. Solid wood cabinets can always be sanded down and re-stained if needed later down the road. When choosing cabinets, be sure to choose cabinets that have a simple face on them without too much decoration on them. You should also splurge on your countertops, as they can also be long-lasting when you choose a good quality countertop. Choose granite or some other type of solid surface countertop. Laminate countertops can be beautiful, but they can also be easily damaged and you may need to replace them much sooner than you may have wanted.

If you are thinking of remodeling your kitchen, you can get it done on a budget. Talk to a remodeling contractor about what else you can do to get the kitchen of your dreams and stay within your budget.

About Me

Home Remodeling Crash Course: What I Learned The Hard Way

One of the most challenging times for me as a homeowner was when my family was growing but my house was not. We were quickly running out of room and things felt cramped. That's when I started looking into the possibility of remodeling the house to add a couple of extra bedrooms and expand the living area. I had no idea how complex the process would be or what was involved, but I learned a lot along the way. Now that the work is done, I have created this site to help teach others what I didn't know going into the plans. I hope that the information here empowers you and makes your upcoming remodeling project easier.
